My Approach Towards Leadership
Throughout my time taking KNR 171, I’ve learned that leadership is earned. Also through this learning process I’ve also learned that everyone is capable of being a leader. A leader isn’t always someone who does something extraordinary. Throughout my time in KNR 171, my leadership skills have ultimately grown. I’ve noticed how more vocal I have become from taking this class. Also, it helped bring me out my comfort zone which allowed me to become a better leader. While also opening my mind up to new ideas and finding different ways to lead. For example, you can lead in a more vocal approach or you can lead by example. I also expressed my leadership skills throughout the course of this semester by being in groups and helping facilitate the main goal of the activity. Also throughout my time taking KNR 171, I’ve learned how to build relationships with my peers. Through always introducing ourselves during every class and making sure I know everyone’s name.
Teamwork & Collaboration
Throughout taking KNR 171, teamwork and collaboration was always very important and continuously pushed throughout the curriculum. Throughout this process, I’ve learned that everyone has a right to their own opinion and it is up to you as a leader to make sure everyone in your group opinion is heard and ultimately expressed. For example, during our KNR 171 class, students were asked to pair up each day and we were given an activity to complete within a certain time frame. We as groups had to gather ideas and ultimately complete the activity within the select time frame.
Being A Effective Facilitator
Throughout my experiences in KNR 171, I learned how to strategically plan activities and set goals for the facilitation. I also learned that running a facilitation takes lots of planning. Throughout half the semester we were given the task to come up with a well thought out one hour facilitation plan. This plan ultimately helped me learn how to run and organize a facilitation. Also, through process I learned that it is best to keep in mind the participants mood while doing the activity to ensure they are having a great time. My skills at facilitating activity has increased since taking this class. Especially my skill for learning and improving how to communicate with participants.
Reflecting On First Blog Post
When it comes to what leadership means my answers stayed relatively the same. However I have learned since then that it is not about the extraordinary things you do, it’s about the little things we do that counts. Being a leader is anyone who has an impact on others no matter how small or big the impact is. In taking KNR 171, it showed me that I am more of a leader than I thought. From coming out my comfort zone and building on my communication skills. I’ve seen growth in my communication skills on a daily basis.
How KNR 171 Helps Towards Career Goals
KNR 171 taught me a lot and helped advance my skills and progress to my career goal of being in Sports Management. Throughout this class it taught me the importance of being vocal but also listening and hearing others opinion. I believe that these same skills will help me progress towards my goal. Also learning how to facilitate an activity or event. This could be useful in the field of Sports management by knowing how to run things. Communication is also something that I’ve seen progression in since joining the KNR 171 class. It has helped me open up more and also tests my limits.
Steps I Will Take Towards Leadership Growth
Next semester, I am looking forward to getting involved in more programs relating towards my major. Also I will be looking for job and intern opportunities within my major to help guarantee success in my career. Also, staying committed to the little things such as coming to class and completing assignments to my best of my ability.
Areas I Would Like To Improve
I would like to continue improving my communication skills and facilitation skills to the point where I feel very comfortable giving any type of facilitation or speech. I would also like to think more critically and not just looking at something one dimensional. I plan on improving in these areas everyday by pushing my self to always analyze and think outside the box. Also by practicing my facilitation skills whenever.
